BIO MASS BOILERS

BioMass is defined as "all organic materials, available on a renewable or recurring basis, possessing an intrinsic chemical energy content that allows conversion into BioEnergy".

BioMass resources are diverse and widely dispersed.

Solid BioMass includes fuel wood, vegetable waste, animal materials/wastes and also sewage sludge's. They are generally low-energy and low-bulk density materials, which can be awkward to transport and store.

BioMass is considered to be 'carbon-neutral', in that the amount of carbon it absorbs while growing is the same as the amount it produces when burned.

Wood contributes to the largest proportion of biomass energy produced in Ireland. Wood differs from most other sources of renewable energy to the extent that it is grown rather than harnessed, and it gives off carbon dioxide when burned. However, wood fuel, as with all biomass sources, is regarded as 'CO2 neutral'.
